Poultry department operates on internationally recognized food safety
management standard i.e FSSC 22000 which is a Global Food Safety Initiative
(GFSI) recognized standard along with Halal and METRO internal Food Safety
& Hygiene Standard. Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 2000 is one of
the leading global certification scheme which covers all requirements of HACCP,
ISO 22000 and accepted across the world due to its comprehensiveness like BRC,
IFS etc.
Red Meat,
Poultry & their products are always considered high risk in terms of hygiene
practices of local market and associated product risk. METRO has established a
well-equipped supply chain to provide fresh, safe, Halal & hygienic product
to its customers & consumers. METRO Quality Assurance team in collaboration
with commercial & operations staff work closely with its registered
suppliers to ensure fresh, safe, Halal & hygienic products throughout its
supply chain in sustainable manner.
Healthy
& disease-free alive birds from the Poultry farms are brought to the Halal
approved processing facilities approved by experts of MTERO Quality Assurance team.
Slaughtering & processing of chicken into various parts is done in a
hygienic environment by highly professional, qualified, and trained staff.
During processing requirements of internationally recognized standards like
FSSC 22000, HACCP, ISO 22000, HALAL etc are ensured on which our suppliers are
certified. Chicken after processing is transported to our stores in a closed
temperature-controlled vehicle to ensure that freshness, safety & quality
of products should not compromise.
All
Red Meat coming in our stores is slaughtered from Government approved abattoirs
where Veterinary Doctors do detail ante-mortem & post-mortem inspection to
certify the health of animals & guarantee disease free meat production as
per law/ regulation. After cleaning & processing meat is transported to our
stores in a closed temperature-controlled vehicle to ensure that freshness,
safety & quality of products should not compromise. After receiving meat in
store, it is given ample time to complete Rigor Mortis process before
processing so that best quality meat can be provided to our customers & consumers.
A
detailed inspection of Red Meat, Poultry & related products carried out in
stores by our highly professional, qualified & trained staff. Products
after receiving immediately moved to chiller rooms to avoid any cold chain
break from where its processed, packed & sold to our customers &
consumers. METRO ensures implementation of food safety, quality
and Halal standards through its highly professional, qualified and trained meat
department staff. An extensive monitoring & inspection from receiving of
meat till handing over to customer & consumer carried out by our staff
covering safety & quality aspects.
We ensure use of high-quality food grade cutting &
preparation tools like knives, cutting & mincing machines, cutting board
etc which ultimately help us to provide more safe food by minimizing risk of
contamination.
Our trained staff monitor freshness, quality &
temperature of product regularly and ensure through their expertise that safety
& hygiene of product shouldn’t be compromised at any stage. Products offered for sale to customers or consumers are
displayed in a temperature control environment with a continuous chilling
system. This continuous chilled environment not only helps to maintain
freshness & quality of the product but also keeps product safe throughout
their recommended shelf life from microbiological point of view.
